Estimate the answer to the following problem by rounding to the nearest 10:

13 + 46 + 87 = ?

A: 130
B: 155
C: 160
D: 150

I personally think its 160, because look; 13 + 46 + 87 = 146. I rounded it, and I think it's 160.

Could anybody find out if it's correct or not? Thank you.

to the nearest 10

13---> 10
46 ---> 50
87 ---> 90

sum = 150

if you added them up like you did to get 146 , you have the actual answer, why bother estimating ?
Besides, 146 rounded to the nearest tens is 150, not 160

Yay, thank you Reiny. That helped me.

To estimate the answer to the problem by rounding to the nearest 10, you can round each number to the nearest 10 and then perform the addition.

Round 13 to the nearest 10: It is already a multiple of 10, so it remains as 10.
Round 46 to the nearest 10: It is closer to 50, so it becomes 50.
Round 87 to the nearest 10: It is closer to 90, so it becomes 90.

Now, add the rounded numbers together: 10 + 50 + 90 = 150.

According to the given options:
A: 130
B: 155
C: 160
D: 150

The estimated answer by rounding to the nearest 10 is 150, which is option D. So, your estimation is correct!
