Two mechanical shafts are joined together at their ends. Together, their total length is 17 2/9 ft. If one shaft is 7 5/9 ft long. How long must the other shaft be?

  • math -

    7 5/9 + x = 17 2/9
    x = 17 2/9 - 7 5/9
    x = 16 11/9 - 7 5/9
    x = 9 6/9 or 9 2/3
