The length of the base of a isosceles triangle is one forth the length of one of its legs. If the premimeter of the triangle is 16 inches, what is the length of the base.

let the base be x
then each of the other 2 equal legs would be 4x
4x + 4x + x = 16
9x = 16
x = 16/9 inches
