Write an equation in the form y = mx + b for the line that has a slope of 1/2 and contains the point (12, 3).

• algebra -

since the slope is constant then for any point (x,y),

(y-3)/(x-12) = 1/2
y-3 = 1/2 x - 6
y = 1/2 x - 3

Get familiar with the various ways of writing the equation of a line:

slope-intercept
point-slope
two-point
