Determine the absolute extrema of each function on the given interval. Illustrate your results by
sketching the graph of each function.
a) f(x) = x^2 − 4x + 3 , 0 ≤ x ≤ 3
b) f(x) = (x − 1)^2 , 0 ≤ x ≤ 2

I will do the first, you do the 2nd
a) y = x^2  4x + 3
dy/dx = 2x  4 = 0 for max/min
2x=4
x = 2
if x=2, y = 4  16 + 3 = 9
if x = 0, y = 3
if x = 3 , y = 9  12+3 = 0
the min is 9 and the max is 3
