The surface of the Sun is approximately 5700 K and the temperature of the Earth's surface is about 290 K. What total entropy change occurs when 1000 J of heat of energy is transferred from the Sun to the Earth?

  • Physics -

    Flows to the Earth
    ΔS(E)=1000/290 =3.448 J/K
    Flows out of the Sun
    ΔS(S)=-1000/5700 =- 0.1754J/K
    ΔS= ΔS(E)+ ΔS(S)= 3.448-0.1754=3.2726 J/K
