The equilibrium constant for the following reaction is 7.2 x 10-10. What is the [H+] in a solution 1.0 M of this acid?
HCN + H2O --> H3O+ + CN-

  • Chemistry -

    ..........HCN + H2O ==> H3O^+ + CN^-
    initial...1.0M...........0.......0
    change.....-x............x.......x
    equil.....1.0-x..........x.......x

    Substitute into the Ka expression and solve for H3O^+.
