Use the substitution method to solve
x + 3y=24
5x +8y=5

Manipulating the first equation, we get:
x = 3y  24
5x + 8y = 5
Substitute 3y24 for x in second equation and solve for y. Insert that value into the first equation and solve for x. Check by inserting both values into the second equation.
