1/2y=x2

please work out the problem and explain it

I would multiply the 2nd by 2 to get
y = 2x  4
now we can equate y = y
2x4 = (1/4)x  1
times 4
8x  16 = x  4
7x = 12
x = 12/7
then y = 24/7  4 = 4/7
x = 12/7, y = 4/7
