Which of the following isotopes possesses a greater number of electrons than it does neutrons?
A. 40Ar B. 24Mg2+ C. 34S2− D. 19F− E. 16O2−

How do I determine the numbers of protons, neutrons, and electrons of each?

  • chemistry -

#protons = atomic number from the periodic table.
    # electrons = # protons.
    # p + #n = mass number

For 40Ar, atomic number is 18.
    #p = 18, #e = 18
    #p + #neutrons = 40
    # neutrons = 40-18 = 22
