Rebecca, we certainly had no foreign policy before we had a country.

Other than that I do not know where to start.
In the period between the Constitution and 1930 we had a bunch of foreign wars. I suppose they count as major milestones in foreign policy.
War of 1812
Mexican War
Civil war had lots of foreign policy implications
Spanish American War
World War One
for example.
Meanwhile every single president had a Secretary of State who was doing something. I can not imagine how to help you. Perhaps Google "American Foreign Policy history" and see if someone has summarized into phases or something.

would the alien sedation act be a foreign policy?

and the monroe doctrine?

I wouldn't classify the Alien and Sedition Act as part of foreign policy. It was a domestic policy.

The Monroe Doctrine was a foreign policy.

Sure! During the time frame you mentioned, from the 1600s to the 1930s, the United States had several major foreign policies that were instituted by different presidents. Here are a few of the key foreign policies and the presidents associated with them:

1. Monroe Doctrine (1823) - This policy was put forth by President James Monroe. It declared that European powers should not interfere with or colonize any further in the Western Hemisphere, stating that any such attempt would be considered a threat to the United States.

2. Open Door Policy (1899) - Although you already mentioned it, the Open Door Policy deserves some explanation. This policy, initiated by President William McKinley and Secretary of State John Hay, aimed to maintain equal trading rights with China for all countries and prevent any single nation from dominating trade. It sought to protect American commercial interests in Asia.

3. Big Stick Diplomacy (1901-1909) - This foreign policy is associated with President Theodore Roosevelt. It emphasized negotiating peacefully but also maintaining a strong military as a "big stick" to intimidate adversaries. It was used to assert American influence and control in various regions, including the Caribbean, Central America, and the Pacific.

4. Dollar Diplomacy (1909-1913) - President William Howard Taft introduced this policy, which aimed to promote American economic interests in foreign countries through increased investment and loans. The idea was to leverage economic power to strengthen political stability and maintain American influence.

5. Good Neighbor Policy (1933-1945) - This policy was implemented by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and it sought to improve relations with Latin American countries. It emphasized non-intervention and non-interference in the internal affairs of other nations and promoted mutual respect and cooperation.

These are just a few examples of important foreign policies during the mentioned time frame. To have a more comprehensive understanding, I recommend doing further research or consulting your textbook or lecture notes.
