Charlotte is a 43 year old mother of two, who is attending for a routine appointment. During the course of the consultation Charlotte begins to cry. She explains to you that her husband has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and she is deeply concerned at the effect on her children aged 12 and 10 and the fact that his Life Insurance cover through his employer will terminate at the end of his 12 month period of sickness. This comes up in two weeks’ time, after which she will have no Life Insurance cover. Her husband is expected to die very soon and she tells you that she has been thinking dreadful things relating to the timing of his death and financial support for their family.
