Solve the equation. 4 times the square root of x minus 5 minus 8 = 12

1. tracy

I think I got it, its 20

2. Reiny

is it
4√x - 5 - 8 = 12
or
4√(x-5) - 8 = 12
I think the latter or else they would have combined the -5 and -8

so 4√(x-5) = 20
√(x-5) = 5
square both sides
x-5 = 25
x = 30
