Explain exactly how you would make 1 liter of a .10 M acetic acid solution using vinegar from the lab as the stock solution to be diluter.

Do you know the concn of the vinegar stock solution? You will want to use
mL x M = mL x M to arrive at the final volume
1000 mL x 0.1M = mLstock x Mstock
So the exact instructions are to measure the mL stock calculated above, place in a 1-L volumetric flask and add distilled water to the mark on the volumetric flask. Note that I did NOT say, place stock in a flask and add 1000 mL. The final solution must be 1000 mL. Neither did I say, add the stock and add water (1000-mL stock).
