a ship coming into port blows its whistle, you see its steam 1.86 seconds before you hear the sound. How far away is the ship if the air temperature is 10 degrees Celsius?

  • Physics -

distance = 1.86 seconds * (speed of sound)

Use the temperature to get the speed of sund. It will be about 340 m/s.
