suny ridge elemantrayschool was collecting ans for a food drive . the first few days of the drive , they collected 103 cans. they collected 5 more cans on the first day than the second day . how many cans did they collected each day?
___first day ___ second day

let x = cans on first day, then x5 = second day.
x + x5 = 103
Add 5 to both sides and combine terms.
2x = 108
Divide both sides by 2.
x = 54
x5 = 49
