a rental car costs $24 per day plus 25 cents per mile. the total trip costs $54. how many miles were traveled if the trip lasted one day?

  • algebra -

    54 - 24 = 30

    30/0.25 = ? miles

  • algebra -

well since its only one day the car rental would cost $24. so

    54-24= 30

then divide 30 by the cost per mile(.25)

30/.25=120 so they traveled 120 miles

That's ok, Roger. It helps students to see more than one way to solve a problem. It also confirms that the answer is right. :-)
