The assignment is to write a speech (from Seward's perspective)that gives the reasons for purchasing Alaska.
Researching I found:
To maintain Russia's friendship (England's government had been sympathetic ti the Confederacy during the recent American Civil War, France had sent troops and set up a dictator in Mexico during the same war, and Russia was a potential ally against either country)
2. To facilitate acquisition of British Columbia
3. To deserve economic benefit from Alaska's resources
4. To move closer to the markets of Asia

Are these valid and can you add anything?

  • History -

Never mind I am already writing it and ok with my info.
