An alcohol has an OH- Functionality in it. Do you expect it to be a base? Why or Why not?

I said it is a base b/c Alcohols have a slight tendency to lose the proton on the alcohol group, however less so than water, and so they do not significantly change the pH when added to water.
Am I on the right track?

Not quite. Alcohols do not ionize to release the OH^- into solution. Some alcohols have a slight tendency to lose the proton of the OH group which makes them acidic but only SLIGHTLY so.

Here is a site on alcohols. Scroll down to physical and chemical properties for a discussion of them acting as a base or as an acid.
