Keep dividing by any factors until you get to the prime factors.
2 goes into 392.
392/2 = 196
2 goes into 196
196/2 = 98
2 goes into 98
98/2 = 49
So far we have 2^3, because we divided by 2 three times.
Now, 7 goes into 49.
49/7 = 7.
Therefore, we have 7^2 and 2^3 as the prime factors 
392

98 2
 \
49 2
 \
7 7
therefore
392 = 2.2.2.7.7
.
