I need help with this question:

Estimate the product by rounding to
the nearest one

6.38 times 18.716

I said on my assignment 120 and my
teacher marked it wrong. She said it's
114, and I donot see how it's 114.

Any input, would certainly be welcome.

Thank you!

By rounding to the nearest 1, you are multiplying 6 x 19. That product is 114.

Before multiplying first round the numbers. It would be 6x19 then the answer comes out to be 114.

To estimate the product by rounding to the nearest one, you need to round each factor to the nearest whole number and then multiply them together.

For the calculation 6.38 times 18.716, you would round 6.38 to the nearest whole number, which is 6. Then you would round 18.716 to the nearest whole number, which is 19.

Now you have the numbers 6 and 19. Multiply these rounded numbers together to get the estimated product.

6 times 19 equals 114.

So, the estimated product of 6.38 times 18.716, rounded to the nearest one, is 114.
