*Now, I must: Identify any functional groups in these compounds and name them.


The functional group in 1 is the OH which makes it an alcohol. (It is a primary alcohol, by the way.)
In two, the functional group is the COOH group on the end which makes it an acid. I can't tell where the CH3 group is in #2 but it isn't a functional group, anyway.

in 2, the CH3 is under the 2nd CH (the one found in between the CH3 & CH2)...

Could you pls help me with the next part as well.

From the above compounds:
Complete the equation for reaction by drawing the abbreviated structural formula(e) of the product(s) of this reaction..... I must also identify any new functional groups in the organic product(s).

The final compound created from this reaction is tocainide.

Firstly, I do not think an 11 year-old would need to know of this - or should care to know of this.

Secondly, you keep putting this into my question which I am trying to sort out and understand myself!!!

I don't know enough about organic chemistry to know how you get from what you have to tocainide but I looked up tocainide in The Merck Index. It has an amino group (-NH2) as one functional group and an amide (-CONHR) as another functional group. The amide is a secondary amide. It has a -C=O and coming from the C is the N-H with an (Ar-in this case a benzene ring) attached to it.
