Name and explain two laws/legislation that protects citizens against gender based violence in our country

1. The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005: This legislation was enacted to provide for the protection of women from domestic violence and to prevent abuse against women in intimate relationships. It defines domestic violence broadly to include physical, sexual, emotional, verbal, and economic abuse. The law also allows for women to seek protection orders from the court to prevent acts of violence or threats of violence from their intimate partners.

2. The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013: This law was enacted to prevent and protect women from sexual harassment at the workplace. It mandates every organization with more than 10 employees to establish an internal complaints committee to address complaints of sexual harassment. The law also requires employers to provide a safe working environment for women and take proactive measures to prevent sexual harassment. Additionally, it provides for penalties for non-compliance with the Act.
