Some of the new weapons used in World War 1 included machine guns, tanks, poisonous gas, flamethrowers, and aircraft. Machine guns such as the Maxim gun were able to fire more rounds per minute than traditional rifles, causing devastating casualties. Tanks were introduced for the first time on the battlefield, providing armored protection and firepower.
