Gender inequality is a social justice issue that refers to the unequal treatment and opportunities between individuals based on their gender. This issue is important and pressing to learn about because it affects individuals across all aspects of life, from education and employment to healthcare and political representation.

According to statistics from the Canadian Women's Foundation, women in Canada earn on average 87 cents for every dollar earned by men, and they are more likely to experience poverty, violence, and discrimination. Additionally, a UN Women press release highlights that the world is failing girls and women, with only 25% of parliamentarians worldwide being women. This lack of representation perpetuates gender stereotypes and limits progress towards gender equality.

The Covid-19 pandemic has also exacerbated gender inequalities, as seen in a global study reported by The Guardian. Women have been disproportionately burdened by caregiving responsibilities and job losses, further widening the gap between genders.

Overall, understanding and addressing gender inequality is crucial for creating a more equitable society where all individuals have equal opportunities and rights, regardless of their gender.
