Buddhism is a belief system that originated in India and is now practiced in many countries around the world, including Thailand, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Japan, and Tibet, among others. It is considered both a religion and a philosophy, as it encompasses spiritual practices, rituals, and beliefs as well as ethical principles and philosophical teachings.

Some key ideas of Buddhism include the Four Noble Truths, which are the fundamental teachings of the Buddha: the truths of suffering, the cause of suffering, the cessation of suffering, and the path to the cessation of suffering. Buddhists also believe in the concept of karma, the belief in the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth, and the ultimate goal of reaching enlightenment or nirvana.

Buddhism emphasizes the importance of meditation, mindfulness, compassion, and the pursuit of wisdom. It teaches the practice of non-attachment and the impermanence of all things. Veneration of the Buddha, the Dharma (the teachings of the Buddha), and the Sangha (the community of monks and nuns) are also common practices in Buddhism.
