Egypt made peace with Israel in 1978 because they saw it as an opportunity to secure the return of the Sinai Peninsula, which had been occupied by Israel since the Six-Day War in 1967. Additionally, Egypt sought to gain access to US military aid and investment to help bolster its struggling economy. Other Arab countries eventually followed Egypt's example because they saw the benefits of normalized relations with Israel, including increased trade and economic opportunities, as well as a chance to align themselves with the US, a powerful ally in the region. Furthermore, some Arab countries realized that continued hostility towards Israel was not in their best interests, and that pursuing peace could lead to greater stability and security in the Middle East.
