Define and simplify positive punishment concept with clear example

Positive punishment is a form of behavior modification in which an undesired behavior is followed by the addition of a stimulus in order to decrease the likelihood of that behavior occurring again in the future.

For example, if a child hits their sibling and is then scolded by their parent, the scolding serves as a positive punishment. The parent is adding a stimulus (the scolding) in response to the unwanted behavior (hitting) in order to decrease the likelihood of the child hitting their sibling again in the future.
