The flow of matter and energy in land-based ecosystems and marine ecosystems is similar in that both ecosystems rely on producers, consumers, and decomposers to transfer energy and matter through food chains and cycles. However, they differ in terms of the specific organisms and processes involved. For instance, land-based ecosystems receive energy from the sun and undergo processes such as photosynthesis, while marine ecosystems receive energy from sunlight, chemosynthesis, and organic matter sinking from the surface. Additionally, they have different nutrient sources, as land ecosystems rely on soil and air, while marine ecosystems source nutrients from the water.
