Both land-based and marine ecosystems follow the same basic principles of energy flow, with producers capturing energy from the sun through photosynthesis and transferring it to consumers through food webs. However, there are significant differences in the way matter is cycled within these ecosystems. On land, nutrients are typically recycled through the soil, while in marine ecosystems, nutrients are often transported by ocean currents and tides.
