Bruise,Contusion and Hematoma

A bruise, also known as a contusion, is a common skin injury that occurs when small blood vessels near the skin's surface break and leak blood into the surrounding tissue. It typically appears as a blackish-blue or purple mark on the skin and can be painful or tender to the touch. Bruises can result from a variety of causes, such as minor trauma or injury, sports activities, or certain medical conditions.

A contusion is another term for a bruise and can be used interchangeably with bruise. It refers to the same type of injury where blood vessels rupture and blood seeps into the surrounding tissues, causing discoloration and tenderness.

A hematoma, on the other hand, is a larger collection of blood under the skin or within body tissues, often resulting from more significant trauma or injury. Hematomas can be painful and may appear as a raised lump or mass on the skin. They can occur on any part of the body and can vary in size. Unlike a bruise, which typically resolves on its own within a couple of weeks, larger hematomas may require medical intervention, such as draining the accumulated blood or surgery, depending on the severity.
