Wegener used the evidence of fossilized plants and animals found across different continents to support his theory of continental drift. He observed that fossils of the same species were found on continents that are now widely separated, such as matching Glossopteris fossils in South America, Africa, India, Australia, and Antarctica. This suggested that these continents were once joined together and then separated. Additionally, he found similar fossils of land-dwelling reptiles in South America and Africa, which further supported the idea of land connections that have since split apart.
