What are the objectives and scope of the EACOP

The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project has several objectives and a defined scope:

1. Objective: To transport crude oil from the oil fields in western Uganda to the seaport of Tanga in Tanzania.

2. Objective: To stimulate economic development and create job opportunities in the region through construction, operation, and maintenance of the pipeline.

3. Objective: To strengthen energy security and reduce dependency on imported petroleum products in both Uganda and Tanzania.

4. Objective: To attract investment in the oil and gas sector and other related industries in Uganda and Tanzania.

5. Scope: The EACOP project includes the construction of a 1,445-kilometer long pipeline, with a capacity to transport 216,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

6. Scope: The pipeline will traverse several districts in western Uganda, passing through Kabaale, Hoima, Kakumiro, Kyankwanzi, Mubende, Gomba, Sembabule, Lwengo, Kyotera, Rakai, and Mutukula.

7. Scope: In Tanzania, the pipeline will pass through the districts of Bukoba, Shinyanga, Sengerema, Mwanza, Geita, Kahama, Masindi, Uvinza, and Tanga.

8. Scope: The project includes the construction of pump stations, storage terminals, and other necessary infrastructure along the pipeline route.

9. Scope: The EACOP project also involves the implementation of environmental and social safeguards to mitigate the potential impacts on communities, ecosystems, and cultural heritage along the pipeline route.

Overall, the objectives of the EACOP project are to facilitate the transportation of crude oil, boost economic development, enhance energy security, and promote investment in the oil and gas sector in both Uganda and Tanzania.
