Contemporary poetry often takes traditional forms, such as sonnets and haikus, and reinvents them by introducing new elements, such as modern language, themes, and imagery. Contemporary poets also often draw inspiration from traditional works, reinterpreting them in a modern context. By doing so, contemporary poets are able to create something new while still honoring the past.
