Homework Help: Social Studies: Geography: Australia
by Danielle N. McGowan
The capital of Australia is Canberra.
Australia, a long time ago before prehistoric times, was just a bunch of lava. Today, the lava is dried up, obviously, and forms the land of the Australia we know today. Australia was part of a super continent called Godwana. It was made up
of what is now three separate continents: Australia, South America, and Antarctica. For several million years, Australia has been drifting on the face of Earth and is now where we know it to be. Australia is currently moving farther over the years at a rate of 5.5 cm per year!
Australia is now rich in natural resources. Australia is a major exporter of agricultural products such as minerals, metals, and fossil fuels. The major commodities are coal, gold, wool, alumina, iron ore, wheat, and machinery and transport equipment.
Australia is special in different ways, but their culture is very similar to that of the United States. At age age six you attend primary school, and at age twelve you start high school! It's scenery is beautiful as well.
