To solve a math problem for homework Carrie needed to find the total of 2 3/4 6.00 and 3 4/5 What should Carrie have gotten as an answer?
7.55?
I got a much different answer.
If you rounded the numbers with fractions, you'd get 13.
Oh because what I did was divide 3/4 and I got .75 and then I divided 4/5 and got 80. Then I added 6.00 .75 and .80 and got 7.55. But then I didn't know what to do with the whole number. So how do you figure out you were suppose to round?
I used the rounding example as a way of showing how far off your answer is.
2.75 + 6 + 3.8 = ?
To find the total of 2 3/4 (written as a mixed number) and 6.00, you need to add the two values together.
First, convert 2 3/4 into an improper fraction:
2 3/4 = (2 * 4 + 3) / 4 = 11/4
Now, add the improper fraction to 6.00:
11/4 + 6.00
To add a fraction to a whole number, you need to convert the whole number into a fraction with the same denominator as the fraction. In this case, convert 6 into a fraction with a denominator of 4:
6 = 6/1 = 24/4
Now, you can add the two fractions:
11/4 + 24/4 = (11 + 24) / 4 = 35/4
To simplify this fraction, you can divide the numerator (35) by the denominator (4):
35 รท 4 = 8 with a remainder of 3
So, the fraction 35/4 can be written as the mixed number 8 3/4.
Therefore, the answer to the math problem is 8 3/4, not 7.55.
