Answer the following for a face centered unit cell. answers should be numerical. r=6.00

edge in terms of r, the lattice pt radius

i know that for a primitive cubic unit cell, you would muliply 2 by 6 = 12. but what formula would u use for a FCC???

Please help. thanks

(12^2) +(12^2) = x

sqrt(x)=ans

I don' understand the first two sentences (actually only parts of sentences) but the radius and edge length of the unit cell for the fcc is

4r=a*21/2
There are 4 atoms/unit cell for a fcc.

To find the edge length of a face-centered unit cell (FCC) in terms of the lattice point radius (r), you can use the formula:

Edge length (a) = 4√2 * r

In the case where r = 6.00, you can substitute this value into the formula to calculate the edge length:

Edge length (a) = 4√2 * 6.00

Calculating the numerical answer:

Edge length (a) = 4 * 1.414 * 6.00

Edge length (a) ≈ 33.94

So, the approximate edge length of a face-centered unit cell when the lattice point radius is 6.00 is 33.94 units.
