What was the fate of the Equal Rights Movement (ERA)?

The fate of the Equal Rights Movement (ERA) in the United States was that it failed to be ratified as a constitutional amendment. The ERA was first introduced in 1923 and sought to guarantee equal rights under the law regardless of sex. Despite strong support and numerous attempts to pass the amendment, it ultimately fell short of the necessary number of states needed for ratification. The ERA officially expired in 1982, but efforts to revive and pass the amendment continue to this day.
