King believed that in order for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to make a real difference for African Americans, attitudes and beliefs about race needed to change. He believed that there needed to be a shift in society towards valuing equality and justice for all individuals, regardless of race. Additionally, King believed that systemic issues such as segregation, discrimination, and economic inequality needed to be addressed in order for African Americans to truly experience equality and justice in society. He also believed that there needed to be more opportunities for African Americans to access education, employment, and other resources that could help uplift their communities. Ultimately, King believed that a fundamental change in the hearts and minds of individuals was necessary in order to fully realize the promises of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
