I think that in order to at least help this huge problem, we should spread awareness online, such as apps like Tiktok or Social Media. The reason I said tiktok, is because so many people use it, and if they see a video about this they might share it, and it’ll spread. The videos could be about birds dying on a remote island that is extremely hard to get to. These poor birds were dying rapidly, causing scientists to go and see why. After they were cut open, the scientists discovered bottle caps, plastic bags, and more hazardous plastic. These videos would hopefully cause awareness, and we could make in person beach and ocean clean ups that people could attend. Some problems with this are: People just would leave it to us and not care, the cost of the boats is high, and pollution from it is even worse. Also, there is so much trash in the ocean that if it was say 1,000 people helping, it could take decades just to clean up the Pacific Garbage Patch. We would have to use a ton of resources to be able to complete it. On the other hand, every little bit helps, and as long as we do our part, that’s what really matters. At first I thought of making that island a protected area, but there’s no way we can stop the trash from getting there, so that’s why I went with this idea.
