- Research design on Small Scale Pig Farming for Rural Household with Vulnerable Families in a Rural Community.

Introduction:

Small scale pig farming is a common livelihood activity in many rural communities, particularly among vulnerable families who rely on farming for their income and sustenance. However, there is a lack of research on the specific needs and challenges faced by vulnerable families engaged in pig farming. This research aims to address this gap by conducting a comprehensive study on small scale pig farming for rural households with vulnerable families in a rural community.

Research Objective:

The main objective of this research is to understand the factors influencing the success of small scale pig farming for rural households with vulnerable families in a rural community. This includes identifying the specific needs and challenges faced by these families, as well as exploring potential solutions to improve their livelihoods through pig farming.

Research Design:

This research will employ a qualitative research design, specifically using a mix of interviews and focus group discussions with key stakeholders such as pig farmers, agricultural extension workers, and community leaders. The study will be conducted in a rural community with a high prevalence of pig farming among vulnerable families.

Sampling:

A purposive sampling technique will be used to select participants for interviews and focus group discussions. Participants will be selected based on their involvement in pig farming and their status as vulnerable families in the community. A total of 20 participants will be selected for the study.

Data Collection:

Data will be collected through semi-structured interviews with individual pig farmers and focus group discussions with groups of farmers and other stakeholders. The interviews and discussions will be audio-recorded and transcribed for analysis.

Data Analysis:

Thematic analysis will be used to analyze the data collected from interviews and focus group discussions. The data will be coded and organized into themes based on key topics such as challenges faced by vulnerable families in pig farming, factors influencing the success of pig farming, and potential solutions to improve livelihoods.

Ethical Considerations:

Ethical considerations will be taken into account throughout the research process, including obtaining informed consent from participants, ensuring confidentiality of data, and respecting the privacy and dignity of participants.

Conclusion:

This research will provide valuable insights into the specific needs and challenges faced by vulnerable families engaged in small scale pig farming in a rural community. The findings will help inform future interventions and policy recommendations to support these families in improving their livelihoods through pig farming.
