Wernicke's area is a region in the brain located in the temporal lobe on the left side. It is responsible for the comprehension and understanding of spoken and written language. Damage to Wernicke's area can result in a condition called Wernicke's aphasia, in which individuals have difficulty understanding language while still being able to produce it fluently.
