Directions: In Unit 14, Lessons 1-9 you have learned about how to conduct meaningful research, avoid plagiarism, provide evidence to a claim, and speak effectively while presenting. The portfolio for this unit incorporates all that you have learned. The textbook refers to this as a “portfolio” but it is not a portfolio in the traditional FCA sense.

In this portfolio, you will develop an oral presentation that answers a research question. You will present your claim and findings and support them with evidence. You will add visual components to help listeners understand your findings. You will differentiate between the speech used in everyday conversation and the speech needed for a formal presentation. Finally, you will learn to use your voice and body to connect with your audience and convey your key ideas.

Your research question/topic should interest you, but also think about what might appeal to your audience. The research question/topic is your choice.

Key Terms:
Claim- a statement that represents the argument or opinion of the speaker or writer.
Evidence- the facts or information supporting an idea or analysis.
Mood- refers to the way in which a verb expresses an action or condition.
Voice- the form of a verb that shows whether the subject of a sentence does an action or has an action done to it.
Multimedia- forms of communication that share information, such as text, audio, video, and animation.
Visuals- photographs, maps, charts, illustrations, and diagrams used to clarify points in a text or presentation.
Pronunciation, Tone, and Volume- all things to consider when presenting and speaking aloud.

For your Unit 14 Research and Present, please plan to video your speech/presentation. I will be the only one to view this, the recordings will NOT be presented in class. You can use any format you would like to video/record yourself.

For example:
If you use PowerPoint. Record your VOICE and the SLIDES as you present the information on the PowerPoint.

Requirements:
*A minimum of ten slides with three sentences or pieces of information on the slide.
*Think about your presentation being equivalent to a five paragraph essay. Five sentences per paragraph would be about twenty five sentences.
*Your presentation visual does not need to include all of the information you share aloud. If you use index cards or a written document as you record, please submit this as well.
*You must submit Works Cited information.
For a presentation, it should be included on your last slide.

*Your presentation should last between 5-7 minutes.

Remember, your presentation should include:
- A clear research question/topic
- Your claim
- Evidence to support your claim
- Visual components to enhance understanding
- Differentiation between everyday conversation speech and formal presentation speech
- Use of voice and body to connect with audience

Good luck with your research and presentation! Make sure to practice and be confident in your delivery.
