Indentured servitude

is a form of labor in which a person agrees to work for a set period of time in exchange for their passage to a new country or other benefits. Indentured servants were common in colonial America, where they worked on plantations and farms in exchange for housing, food, and clothing. Although they were technically free after their term of service was completed, many faced continued hardship and exploitation. Indentured servitude has been widely criticized for its potential for abuse and lack of lasting benefits for the workers involved.
