Edgar Allan Poe attended the University of Virginia for one semester before dropping out due to financial difficulties. He also attended the United States Military Academy at West Point but was dismissed for neglecting his duties. Despite his lack of formal education, Poe was a self-taught writer and poet who went on to become one of the most famous and influential literary figures in American history.
