Listening is a skill that is often neglected in language teaching. In alignment with

CAPS and the communicative approach to language teaching,
find a teaching cycle of your choice in the CAPS document,
indicate the page number,
choose a topic,
and design a phase appropriate procedure for conducting a listening task/activity.

Teaching cycle: Reading and Viewing (Page 32)

Topic: Environmental issues

Procedure for conducting a listening task/activity:
1. Introduction (10 minutes):
- Start by discussing the importance of environmental issues and the impact they have on our planet.
- Introduce key vocabulary related to the topic, such as pollution, recycling, and conservation.

2. Pre-listening task (15 minutes):
- Provide students with a short reading passage about the effects of pollution on the environment.
- Ask students to brainstorm possible solutions to these environmental issues in small groups.
- Discuss their ideas as a class and highlight any key vocabulary that will be used in the listening task.

3. Listening task (20 minutes):
- Play a recorded audio clip discussing different environmental initiatives and solutions.
- Ask students to listen carefully and take notes on the key points mentioned in the audio.
- After listening, have students share their notes with a partner and discuss the main ideas they heard.

4. Post-listening task (15 minutes):
- Divide students into small groups and have them create a skit or role play based on the environmental initiatives discussed in the audio clip.
- Encourage students to use the key vocabulary and ideas from the listening task in their skit.
- After each group performs their skit, facilitate a discussion on the different solutions presented and their effectiveness.

5. Conclusion (10 minutes):
- Wrap up the lesson by revisiting the importance of environmental issues and the role individuals can play in making a positive impact.
- Assign a follow-up writing task for homework, where students can reflect on one specific environmental initiative they would like to implement in their own lives.
