Imagine that you’re out at sea and your navigation app has failed! How might this failure be different from a failure of your GPS while driving? To determine your exact location, you need to find your latitude and longitude coordinates. How would you do this?

A failure of a navigation app at sea can be much more dangerous and challenging compared to a failure of GPS while driving on land. At sea, there are no road signs, landmarks, or other easily identifiable points of reference to help determine your location. Additionally, the vastness of the ocean can make it difficult to navigate without precise coordinates.

To determine my latitude and longitude coordinates without the navigation app, I would first try to use other navigation tools such as a map, compass, and sextant. I would also look for other signs such as the position of the sun, stars, or landmarks to help me determine my location.

If these methods prove to be ineffective, I may need to rely on other means such as contacting nearby ships or aircraft for assistance, or activating emergency distress signals to request help from maritime authorities. In a worst-case scenario, I may need to rely on my own instincts and knowledge of navigation to try and navigate towards the nearest land or shipping lane for assistance.
