The process that moves water (H2O) across a membrane is known as osmosis. Osmosis is the movement of water molecules from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration across a selectively permeable membrane. This movement occurs in order to achieve a balance of solute concentrations on both sides of the membrane.
