Abraham Lincoln removed General George B. McClellan from his position as commander of the Union army during the American Civil War. McClellan had faced criticism for his cautious approach to military operations and disagreements with Lincoln over strategy. Lincoln eventually replaced McClellan with General Ambrose Burnside.
