From the distance, they could see a bright light flickering as if daring them to get closer. Jasmine and Katy crept down the alleyway towards the blazing light.

“What is that?” Katy questioned quietly to herself.

“I don’t think this is a good idea,” Jasmine stated in a quivering voice.

“Don’t be such a downer,” Katy joked. “We have to find out what it is.”

As they got closer to the light, they could see it was a gigantic rectangular box. It looked like an old arcade game. A creepy genie with a purple robe wrapped around its shoulders glared at the girls with its red flashing eyes. It had coal black hair and a crooked smile across its face. It stood like Goliath, and they couldn’t take their eyes off it.

“I’ve seen things like this on television shows,” Katy mentioned to Jasmine.

“What is your wish?” the genie requested in a deep steady voice. Jasmine bounced back about 3 feet. Her heart started pounding, and the tiny hairs on her arms stood on end. Katy glared at the genie with her eyes the size of saucers.

“I wish for a bag of money,” Katy blurted out to the genie. Jasmine rolled her eyes and stared at Katy in disbelief.

“You really think this silly thing is going to grant your wish?” Jasmine asked in a sarcastic voice. Suddenly, the genie started to shake, and dark smoke came out of its ears. The girls started to cough and wipe the black smoke away from their faces.

Once the smoke had cleared, the girls noticed a black duffle bag lying in front of them. Katy kneeled down to examine the bag. She slowly zipped it open. It was full of money alright. Bright, shiny, copper pennies. Katy looked back at the genie, who now sat still and quiet. Jasmine and Katy burst out laughing.

“I guess I wasn’t very specific,” Katy giggled. She clutched the bag in her hand and headed back down the alleyway.

“That’s what you get for being a Scrooge,” Jasmine joked. “Do you think anyone will believe this story?”

“I don’t think even I believe this story,” Katy chuckled and shook her head.
